We are often in need of volunteers willing to assist our programs by completing various tasks including animal rescues and care, administrative duties, communications, fundraising, event planning, carpentry and much more. Volunteers and interns are welcomed to assist on-site in Paramaribo, Suriname and from a distance. Potential volunteers and interns should know that we can not guarantee direct animal care work.
Currently we are only accepting long-term volunteers and interns who reside locally in Suriname, or others who are able to come to Suriname for 3 months or longer. GHFS does not provide volunteers and interns room and board but we do partner with several local businesses that offer accommodation options in a variety of price ranges.
From time to time, we post project-based short-term volunteer opportunities. Please continue to check this page for those updates.
Distance volunteers tasks may include translation, fundraising, research collaboration, advocacy, and various writing tasks, etc. Your expertise may be a welcome contribution to our work! Let us know what you would like to do, and we will determine how to best put your skills to work.
Important: In addition to volunteer interest form, you are also required to sign and send a volunteer waiver. A link to the volunteer waiver can be found here. Please email all volunteer waivers to [email protected] Please note that your volunteer application will not be considered until we have received both the volunteer interest form and the volunteer waiver.

Currently we are finishing the new rehabilitation center for the animals, the Xenarthra Rehabilitation Center, also known as the Sloth Wellness Center.
The center was constructed using recycled shipping containers and wooden structures for the animal shelters, and includes a research center and accommodation for the manager. With this plan in mind we are looking for volunteers who are handy and like doing odd jobs to make the center complete.
